// asking the big questions about tech and transformation

Keynotes

“Pia Lauritzen is a brilliant communicator”

Gianluca Consonni, Partner, The European House Ambrosetti

Keynote (45-60 min)

Pia’s research into the power of questions has led her to focus on three key aspects of what it means — and takes — to be human: Culture, technology, and leadership.

Across topics and audiences, Pia’s purpose is to make it easier for us all to unlock our question mindset and engage in conversations about the world, problems, and lives we share.

Workshop (90-120 min)

The topics of Pia’s workshops are the same as her keynotes, only workshops last 90-120 min and include a Question Jam to anchor the topic in participants’ everyday conversations.

Below you can see examples of Pia's keynotes and workshops on how questions impact culture, technology, and leadership — and vice versa.

Pia really set the tone for the day. She engaged everyone from the start and made us co-creators of her talk.

How we became question animals

Who asked the world’s first question? And what does it mean for us today? In this talk we explore questioning as the essential characteristic that distinguishes human beings from animals, gods, and machines.

Basic human phenomena like wonder and doubt, ignorance and curiosity — which all articulate a questioning mode of dealing with the world — may well be the reason why human beings developed language.

Yet the diverse ways that people living in different language cultures understand and use questions reflect and reinforce crucial cultural differences. Learn how questions shape our thinking and behavior — from Adam and Eve to today.

What the AI experts don’t tell you

You know AI is the future, but do you know what assumptions about humans and machines were built into AI from the very beginning? Did you know Alan Turing considered the question if machines can think "too meaningless to deserve discussion"?

And do you know how it impacts the human ability to think and make decisions to be surrounded by machines designed to think and make decisions for them? You will after this talk. Just as you will know how to deal with the questions that no AI will ever be able to answer for you.

The art of leading in the AI age

When AI is said to improve everything from productivity to brand loyalty, it’s tempting to assume it can improve leadership too. So, is AI going to make for better leaders?

In this talk, we look at how technology has shaped leaders throughout history. Inspired by German philosopher Martin Heidegger, we explore the connection between art and the artificial, and we ask what kind of skills we look for when we decide whether or not to follow someone.

Arguing that the role of leadership is not to make our lives easier, but to remind us of the beauty of using ourselves and our limited time and resources in a meaningful way, we explore ‘the art of leading’ in 3 different eras of technology.

As experienced leaders we tend to think that we have the seniority and insight to have all the answers. Pia’s workshops help us understand the power of asking questions, working through a philosophical as well as a very operational approach.
